To be honest I haven't done any digital storytelling. Ever since starting classes last February I have been looking forward to taking this class. I have heard about digital storytelling and know a few teachers that use it in their classroom, but I have never invested the time to do it myself. I am hoping this class will give me the knowledge I need to make a video that I can use in my classroom.
I am also hoping to have my students produce their own digital stories. After doing a little more research on digital storytelling I realized there are a lot of resources out there on how to incorportate them into your classroom. Here are a few of the sites I found interesting:

I have to admit I am a little nervous about having all of my 6th graders create a digital story. I do think it is a great way for them to share what they have learned and incorporate technology into their projects. Hopefully, by the end of this class I will feel confidant enough in my abilties to make a digital story that I can teach them to make their own. Can't wait to get started!
I'm also excited about this class. The title and description alone conjurer an image of new tools and ideas to explore.
ReplyDeleteBack when I was a history teacher, so much of what I did was tell stories and it's still kind of the way I approach training teachers. Should be fun.
I'm also really looking forward to this class. I made one attempt at digital stories and unfortunately it was a semi-disaster due to software failures. Hopefully the next time I try it there are better results as I look to have my students create stories as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that through this class we learn some great tools, but more importantly how to support students when they are learning new tools to use for digital storytelling. One thing I always have to remind myself with new projects is that if it is new to me, more than likely it's new to the kids as well.
ReplyDeleteI have been interested in doing digital story telling for the past year, after one of my co-workers brought it up in a presentation. After looking at some of the examples of digital story telling, I feel like there are even more opportunities than I had previously realized to include digital story telling into my class. I also really like that it doesn't require the student(s) to be in front of the camera to produce one. They could illustrate or film the object and narrate. This makes it a comfortable option for all students.
ReplyDeleteI have used Photo Story with the health teachers last year with a lot of success. The students really enjoyed writing their scripts, finding the exact pictures to illustrate their point, and then doing the voice recording. The one issue we had was with the hardware. The microphone headsets that we had in the library were hit or miss, and it was very frustrating for both myself and the students. We have purchased all new hardware for this school year and we are keeping our fingers crossed that we will have even more success this year.
